Is symmetry a card-killer?
I've been having a look at the cards I like, and the cards I don't like, that I have made so far for this 100in100 challenge. Funny thing - most of the ones I like are completely unsymmetrical. Is this one of those "design rules"? I know about the rule of thirds (but usually forget to check that one) and groupings in 3's and 5's, but other than that my designs are usually totally off the cuff. Perhaps I don't like my symmetrical cards because they are never actually quite symmetrical and that's worse than either!
No time for stamping this weekend. Jacob was invited to TWO parties, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. Whilst lovely, kid's parties are TIRING (even as a guest!) and I have fallen behind on my chores. I just hoovered and steam-mopped downstairs and the stairs, just need to do upstairs now, get the boys bathed and bedded, then shop for groceries (we are breadless and Cheerioless so it's all bad), make packed lunches and get ready for the week ahead. Urgh, I really wanted to go to the pool today but Leo conked out about 5 minutes before we set off, and he's been up and smiley all day so I didn't want to move him. So Jacob and Stew have gone without me! :-( Oh well I'm taking J on Thursday so that'll be my big chance.

Funky Friday
Felt a wee bit down today, missing home a little bit. Most of the time I love living here in the States but just occasionally I miss walking around town, meeting people for coffees and cupcakes at the Yummy Cupcake Company and of course, shopping in Monsoon, M&S, Next, Boots etc. And I really miss my family, but that goes without saying!
I also failed to complete the spinning class, I got 15 mins in and realised I'd made a huge mistake and there was no way I could manage another 30 mins. So I slunk out. Not good for the self esteem. I made the problem even worse by going to McDonalds straight after and eating a Angus burger meal and a McFlurry. Oh well, tomorrow is another day!
Tonight I treated myself to some stamping time and got 3 cards polished off. I CASEd the first two from Nat's blog. Her card was a CASE too! Love CASEing. Layout is not my strong point (all my cards tend to come out more or less the same!) so I like using someone else's genius and making it a bit different.
First up: Mum's birthday card at last. Will just have to send it late! In a way it works out OK as her present hasn't arrived yet but I am feeling like a bad daughter all the same!

Sorry for the more-than-usually awful picture. My upline and I have done a deal whereby when we buy DSP, we give one of each pattern to each other (there are always two of each in the pack). Hopefully in this way we'll avoid retired DSP overload (I have a BAD case of this!). Neither of us does any workshops or big events so it should work out well. Anyway. She ordered this Comfort Cafe DSP (I would never have chosen it) and I actually really like it.

Just love the coverage the new Firm Foam SU! inkpads give, I used to struggle to get the balloons of this set to stamp cleanly but it's so easy with the new pads!

One Sheet Wonder - quick cards!?
After being inspired by Amanda, I decided to have a go at a one sheet wonder myself. That's where you take one sheet of DSP/plain paper stamped all over, and make a certain number of cards using it. This particular OSW, from LeeAnn Greff, also used 3 sheets of plain cardstock, so she calls it a Four Sheet Wonder.
I also used the set Happiest Birthday Wishes (a retired Hostess set) for all the sentiments. Whilst I was making the cards, I wasn't liking them an awful lot (more to do with my DSP and colour selection than anything else), but boy, did I get 10 birthday cards done quick!
My next project is going to be another OSW for Christmas cards I think. I also think I'm going to trade out the Melon Mambo pieces for a coordinating DSP just to give a bit more interest.

Body Pump Paper Piecing
Ow ow ow ow!
Went to BodyPump today at the gym. I used to go every so often when I was a student, so I know how great it can be for slimming down quick & getting stronger. But, boy, it was hard. The ladies in the class with me were super nice though, and of course I had the moral support of Lovely Heather. Got asked again if we are sisters... That always makes me laugh as I was born and bred in Lancaster, UK and she was born and bred in Virginia, USA. But I suppose we look similar.
I managed to get Leo to sleep from 1-3pm today. He actually got himself overtired, when I took him to the gym he was fast asleep in his chair but something must have woken him up as he was happily swinging & looking mystifiedly at all the other kids in the creche after my class. He is so cute. Stew put he and Jacob in Jacob's bed for storytime tonight and they looked so gorgeous!
Anyway. I cranked out a couple of cards whilst Leo slept today (as well as doing a load of laundry, cleaning the kitchen and doing the dishwasher). They aren't my best but the idea had been bouncing around in my head. I was inspired by a fellow 100in100er, Heather B, who has been doing lots of lovely cards with furniture. I forgot AGAIN to do my Mum's birthday card, it's getting a bit desperate now. Will probably have to Express Mail it. Because my mum is a cardmaker too, I always want to make my absolute best for her, which means I'm often late as I wait for inspiration! Must do it tomorrow OR ELSE!!!
Anyway here goes. I am a bit leery of going on about other company's products (I am an SU! hobby demonstrator) so if I haven't mentioned something, that's why. Drop me a message if you really need to know. I am stash-busting whilst doing this challenge so I might just send it your way if you're nice! I am going SUO (Stampin' Up! Only) as soon as possible.
I'd like to add that SU! demonstrator support really is fantastic. As you may or may not know, we've recently changed to a Firm Foam pad (before, they were felt). They are fabulous, but my Basic Black was smudging a bit unless I heat set it. So I called them today and they are sending me a new one. It's already in the mail, I don't have to faff sending the other one back, problem solved! Awesome.
100.21:
I did paper piecing here. I don't have a lot of images I can paper-piece (I seem to go for more silhouette style stamps than faffing around colouring - usually) but I think these came out nicely. I was dismayed by how little DSP I was using for just the chairs so decided to mat onto DSP too. Really like the effect. The embossing folder here is actually Lovely Heather's but I think i might have to invest!

I actually wish I'd stuck with the Elegant Bouquet embossing folder for the second two but never mind. The Elegant Lines folder gives such a deep impression that sometimes I think it can overwhelm things.
I think I'll give these as a set to someone for a little gift. Not quite sure who, or when, but they'd look awesome stacked together and tied with a ribbon. Also they will mail easily as they are embellishment-free!

Fun weekend...
We had a slightly busy weekend here, although we probably didn't actually do that much! Time seems to fly with two children...
Friday night I hosted a Thirty-one party which was lots of fun - a really great bunch of ladies came and it was lovely to relax and have a glass of vino with friends. I also managed to earn some free stuff so I will hopefully be a bit more organised. There is a special offer this month to get one of the big totes for $10 if you spend $35 - I am planning to get 3 to organise my laundry. Had a total laundry disaster where I managed to dye all Leo's and my whites a weird browny colour because I washed them with ny black jeans. Not smart!
On Saturday I was in the gym at 7am (!!!!) but had to go for a nap at 11. I think I was tired after the party! Anyway we went swimming at our neighborhood pool in the afternoon which was loads of fun. Leo had his first dip (not a hit!) and Jacob made friends with some other local boys and had a big water fight. Sunday was a day off from the gym, we had a lazy morning, then I had some Mummy time in Target. More swimming in the afternoon then I went grocery shopping with my neighbour in the evening. So it wasn't an exciting weekend, but it was nice. Somehow the weekends fly by without much being achieved.... but we all enjoy them so it doesn't really matter!
Anyway! I also managed to make 3 cards along the way. All of a sudden I seem to need loads of cards so I've knocked three off my list anyway.
First up - 100.18:
This one is for one of Jacob's nursery friends who is having a 4th birthday party on Saturday. Jacob is very excited about that! He designed the monsters and chose the colours. I am not sure it's my best work as it's hard to control an Aquapainter with a wiggly 4 year old on your knee. The sentiment also slipped and ended up wonky but I tried to make it work...
100.18 - Supplies: White baker's twine, Rich Razzleberry polka dot ribbon (retired), Gumball Green and Whisper White cardstock, Watercolour pencils and Aquapainter, Crystal Effects, Tempting Turquoise DSP from the Brights stack, Basic Black ink, Make a Monster and Happiest Birthday Wishes stamp sets.
And, lucky me! Jacob has another birthday party to go to on Sunday. So - 100.19:
Jacob had got a bit bored by this point so I was able to do this one on my own (crafting with kids is fun but it isn't suitable for control freaks like me!). I vastly prefer the design, probably because everything is lined up neat and straight!
100.19 - Supplies: Brights brads, Star punch, Whisper White, Gumball Green and Pumpkin Pie cardstock, Marina Mist DSP from the Subtles stack, Basic Black ink, Watercolour pencils and Aquapainter, Crystal Effects, Make a Monster and Happiest Birthday Wishes stamp sets.
Finally, we actually checked the mailbox on Saturday morning (it's around the corner in a communal unit and somehow I never seem to get round there during the week) and we had received a wedding invitation. We won't be able to go as it's in the UK in August, so I needed a "With Regret" - 100.20:
Made this one to complement the colours in the invitation. I wish I'd put the Woodgrain on the Island Indigo piece but never mind. I love my Woodgrain background stamp, it's been a great investment. I am so pleased SU! has started doing some of their background stamps in clear mount in the new catalog as they always seem a big investment in wood. But if you use it a lot it's worth it!

A final note - SU! has an awesome special offer on in June and July, so I am going to try to finish my 100in100 by the end of July, so that I can take advantage! Could be tricky!! It makes it about 100in70 for me. Need to keep the pace brisk! I think I can, I think I can!

Super Wednesday continued

So, onto 100.15:
Really pleased with this one. It's for my father-in-law as it's his birthday the week after next. I got the colour combination from the Colour Coach and I really like it so I'll use it again.
My FIL has a Jeep Wrangler (in Northern Ireland where they're really rare) and I originally thought this stamp was a Jeep Wrangler. Can you tell I am not a car person? Clearly I see now it's an ATV! Oh well. It's on the right lines. I used my SU! watercolour pencils & an Aqua Painter to colour the vehicle. Then I stamped off Crumb Cake to stamp the big paint splodge from Extreme Elements. The stars and sentiment are heat embossed in gold.
So sad mini library clips, Extreme Elements and Wonderfully Worn are all retiring! Sob.

Phew! Even blogging this took ages. I am really pleased that I am 17 cards in 10 days in. The ideas are starting to come more easily now, but I know I need to use more DSP! I am going to try to make the next 10 cards using DSP. This is not a strength of mine so wish me luck!
So, onto 100.15:
Really pleased with this one. It's for my father-in-law as it's his birthday the week after next. I got the colour combination from the Colour Coach and I really like it so I'll use it again.
My FIL has a Jeep Wrangler (in Northern Ireland where they're really rare) and I originally thought this stamp was a Jeep Wrangler. Can you tell I am not a car person? Clearly I see now it's an ATV! Oh well. It's on the right lines. I used my SU! watercolour pencils & an Aqua Painter to colour the vehicle. Then I stamped off Crumb Cake to stamp the big paint splodge from Extreme Elements. The stars and sentiment are heat embossed in gold.
So sad mini library clips, Extreme Elements and Wonderfully Worn are all retiring! Sob.

I realised again that I'd been neglecting the huge pile of DSP so thought I'd have a go at using some more. And ---- shock horror! ---- this is only SUM as I used a Technique Tuesday sentiment.

100.17 was my last card for today, one for my Dad for Father's Day:
My Dad is a Power Engineer and obsessed with planes. So I thought Need for Speed would come in handy again here!
